About

Why do only 10% of individuals in the U.S. who suffer from a substance use disorder seek out help?  How could integrating treatments for psychiatric and substance use disorders  help us expand the reach and capacity of traditional addiction care?

At the Translational Research in Emotion, Addiction, and Trauma (TREAT) Lab,  we investigate one significant intersection between addiction and mental health: the relationship between substance misuse and posttraumatic stress disorder with the aim of improving recovery trajectories.

In our lab-based studies, we study the mechanisms that link stress, emotion, and substance misuse and potential strategies to refashion these relationships. In our community-oriented studies, we work with marginalized individuals (like people who use drugs) to re-imagine addiction treatment.

TREAT is located at The City College of New York in New York City.
